Socratica

An open collective of markers, artists, engineers, designers, writers, poets, and everything in between.

What happens when people are given the freedom to work on their passions - together?

Socratica is an interdisciplinary collective of builders, learners, and thinkers, brought together by a shared love of curiosity, craft, and community. Since its beginnings in Waterloo, it’s grown from a local gathering into a near-global presence, with nodes in cities like Vancouver, Montreal, San Francisco, and Singapore.

I was lucky to stumble upon Socratica during my very first year at Waterloo. Since then, it has became a cornerstone of my university experience.

Over time, I’ve contributed to the community not just as an attendee and host, but also as a designer whenever I could lend a hand. Through this work, I’ve seen firsthand how thoughtful design significantly reflects and reinforces a sense of belonging within this ever-growing community.

Nametags & doodles for Kickoff

I also supported the design of the brand identity for the Socratica Symposium, an event that brings together over 3,000 attendees across disciplines to share ideas that are big, bold, and beautiful.

Trifolds & posters

However, for me, the most memorable part was the three-day design sprint leading up to the Fall 2024 End of Term Event: A Night at the Socratica Museum.

I singlehandedly made all the visual assets for the event: posters, signage, nametags, demoer signs, tickets, IG post + stories, and more. It was a whirlwind of late nights, caffeine-fueled focus and rapid iteration, but with the support and feedback from my team, it was truly magical to see my designs come to life that one night.
